About WLONG

Born in an agricultural town in northern Malaysia, Wee Loon Ong completed high school in Malaysia, after which he was fortunate to pursue his tertiary education in medicine in Monash University, Australia. Half way through medical school and following exposure to the vast opportunity of research, which alas severely lack in medical schools in Malaysia, he decided to pursue an additional year of BMedSc in Southey Cancer Genomics Lab, University of Melbourne, in preparation for a clinician-scientist career.

Outside medicine, music and sports are among the extra-medical affairs which keep him sane throughout medical school. A violinist who is partial to grand orchestral work, he plays in the Australia Doctors Orchestra. He is also an avid lover of Chinese classical music, who plays the Er-hu, as well as a great fan of Taiwanese music prodigy Jay Chou. He remains a Liverpool FC stalwart for more than a decade now, and is faithfully waiting for their first EPL title. He enjoys running, attempting to complete a marathon race in the near future, and has also recently picked up bush-walking.
